Supporting fisheries and aquaculture innovation

Fisheries Research and Development Corporation has invested in a three year program to advance circularity throughout fisheries and aquaculture. UOW and iAccelerate have partnered with the Regional Circularity Cooperative to deliver a Circularity Accelerator, providing a structured program for ideas to be tested.

How to join

The Circularity Accelerator program will provide the skills for you to run through various stages of customer development, customer validation, prototyping, pitch training, and circularity principles to build an entrepreneurial mindset.

Acceptance into the program will be via an EOI process, with initiatives that address the following issues of particular interest to the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation, including;

  • Diverting shellfish and fish waste into scalable products
  • Recycling plastics and bioplastics for reuse in the system
  • Replacement and reuse of polystyrene in aquaculture
  • Alternative low-impact refrigeration solutions and
  • System's enhancements to reduce fuel and transportation

Who should apply?

As part of this program fisheries and aquaculture entities, individuals and related industries are invited to participate in a staged program where ideas are fostered and mentored by industry and UOW experts, including the Blue Economy team.

Key dates

  • Express your interest and apply for the program.
  • The program commences in February 2024 with a 2.5 hour discovery session, where you will identify the key challenges in your industry and how they relate to your business.
  • You will then attend a morning ideation session in March 2024, where you are partnered with key industry experts and UOW academics who are experts in their field to ideate potential solutions to innovate in the business.
  • In April 2024, selected participants will progress to our Circularity Accelerator program which runs over 9 weeks. Workshops will run on Fridays 9.30 am - 12.30 pm at the UOW Bega campus, or you can join online.
  • The program ends with a pitch event  in June 2024 to showcase your business and the skills you've developed.
